The film ‘Swarnakaduva’ was in the headlines when it managed to secure 104 theaters even in the thundering victory of ‘Pulimurugan’. The Biju Menon starer film is directed by Jose Thomas who earlier directed Mayamohini and Sringaravelan. After a long gap Babu Janardhanan have written the script of the film. Initially the film was named as ‘Vellakaduva’. Due to some unknown reasons the name of the movie was changed later.
The film tells the story of Rini Iype Mattumel essayed by Biju Menon who is the right hand of gold merchant Lonappan. The central protagonist is obsessed with only one thing, money. One fine day, a strange accident happens due to the carelessness of Lonappan and he begs Rini for help. On the whole the film is the rise of Rini from nothing to the top of the society.
Eventhough the film have some similarities to ‘Vasthavam’ and ‘Vellimoonga’, audience will never fill a moment of lag in the film. As usual Biju menon have delivered a stunning performance and handled the Thrissur slang really well. Iniya and Poojitha, who acted in lead female roles were also good. Harish portaryed a full time comedy role that created many laughs in the audience. Innocent who portaryed Lonappan managed to deliver a decent performance. Other actors like Sudheer Karaman, Baiju, Saju Kodiyan, kottayam Nazeer etc also acted well.
On the positive side, the movie is a good satirical comedy which didn’t have a moment of lag in it. The film questions the typical cliche hero who is perfect in every aspect. The BGM scored by Ratheesh vega was upto the mark and is impressive at most of the times. The film also have managed to discuss a lot of socially relevant matters.
On the negative side, The therad of the film seemed to be a combination of Vellimoonga and Vasthavam. One might feel that Mamachan have replaced the central character of Vasthvam. The cuts also lacked perfection.
To sum it up, the movie is a watchable one and definitely better than the director’s previous flicks.
